Diet is always key to results.  The first thing to know is if you're getting enough protein in your diet, then it's not essential to have additional protein shakes. 

If you struggle to get enough protein each day, which a lot of people do, or want to help with recovery, then try a basic whey protein isolate. You'll only need 1-2 shakes a day, the rest should be from your diet.

Just remember food is the better choice.
